Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Programs & Services

Increasing Knowledge. Reducing Risk. Supporting Positive Change.

Informed Decisions Support Wellbeing

Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) programs and services provide education, resources, and support to help students make informed decisions that align with their personal and academic goals. In the latest Health & Wellness survey, 48% of UofA students have felt the need to stop or cut down their alcohol or other drug use, highlighting the importance of accessible, nonjudgmental education and support. Whether or not alcohol or other drugs are part of a student's college experience, developing skills to navigate choices, reduce risk, support positive change, and build healthy habits can strengthen their wellbeing throughout college and beyond.

Health Promotion offers direct services, prevention programs, and resources grounded in evidence-based approaches that promote risk reduction, social connection, informed-decision making, and overall wellbeing.

AOD Direct Support Services

Our direct support services provide individual and group opportunities for students to explore their relationship with substances and how it aligns with their personal goals in a confidential, nonjudgmental environment. Grounded in motivational interviewing and risk reduction, these services help students identify their strengths, address their unique needs, and make informed decisions that support meaningful, sustainable change.

AOD Direct Support Services are available at no cost to students interested in learning more about their substance use. Fees apply only to students with sanctions or violations from Dean of Students or Housing & Residential Life.
