Education & License

Michael is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Arizona. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Arizona in 2008 and his master's in Counseling Psychology from Prescott College in 2011.

Role at CAPS

Michael provides individual, couples, and group therapy at CAPS. He facilitates the existential therapy group (Making Sense of it All) and leads free drop-in guided meditations Tuesday and Thursday mornings via Zoom (https://health.arizona.edu/guided-meditations-online).

Professional Interests

Michael specializes in the treatment of anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, and existential and spiritual crises.

Treatment Approach

Michael’s treatment approach is rooted in mindfulness-based CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), existential psychotherapy, Jungian analytical psychology, and EMDR. His work is also informed by Buddhist philosophy.

Personal Interests

Michael has been practicing meditation since 2005 and yoga since 2007 and has been teaching both on a weekly basis since 2010.

He enjoys working out, reading philosophy and science fiction, watching movies, playing video games, and spending time with his dog Kiwi.
