About Ishani Deo

Dr. Ishani Deo moved across campus to join the CAPS as a staff psychologist in August, 2019; prior to this, she spent a year providing counseling services to students at the SALT Center. She has also trained in hospital, community mental health, and private practice settings.  

Degree & License

Dr. Deo earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Scripps College and her Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona.

Role at CAPS

In addition to providing individual counseling and triage services, Dr. Deo co-facilitates the Students of Color support group and is the CAPS liaison to Asian Pacific American Student Affairs (APASA). As a part of the CAPS ADHD Clinic, she also co-facilitates the Attention Management Program (AMP) workshop, conducts ADHD evaluations, and offers specialized ADHD treatment.

Clinical Interests & Specialties

Dr. Deo has a variety of clinical interests, including depression and anxiety alone or in conjunction with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental concerns, grief and loss, and issues relating to family of origin. She also enjoys working with populations historically underserved by health care systems, particularly LGBTQIA+ students and students of color.

Treatment Approach

Dr. Deo takes an integrative approach to treatment, combining a cognitive-behavioral foundation with skills pulled from a range of other modalities based on each individual’s needs. Her work is also strongly informed by motivational interviewing, guided by a collaborative spirit and deep respect for students’ autonomy.
