Greek
Life Health Advocates
The
Greek Life Health Advocate (GLHA) program was established in the
fall of 1998 utilizing a peer-to-peer educational program model
to improve responses to health and wellness concerns within the
UA fraternity & sorority community. Initially, the group consisted
only of sorority women; however, in the fall of 2004 a concentrated
effort to incorporate men into the group was successfully initiated.
Today,
approximately 45 GLHAs from various sorority and fraternity chapters
provide brief crisis intervention, mentoring, and referral support
to their peers facing health and wellness difficulties.
The
GLHA training curriculum prepares students to provide effective
and appropriate peer support regarding (but not limited to) the
following areas:
- Eating
disorders
- Sexual
assault
- Sexual
health
- Dating
violence/abuse
- Suicide
intervention
- Substance
abuse
- Addictive
behaviors
- Anxiety
and depression
- Stress
management
- Campus
crime issues
- Personal
safety
Our
GLHA program is a collaborative effort between the UA Panhellenic
Association, the Interfraternity Council, the Oasis Program for
Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence, and the Office of Fraternity
and Sorority Programs.
