SHADE
Diversion Program
Fall 2008 Schedule
The Campus Health Service's Alcohol and Other Drug
Education (SHADE) Program provides a six-hour educational risk-reduction
class for students who are in violation of alcohol and other drug
policies at The University of Arizona.
Students are referred to the program through the Dean
of Students Office, Residence Life, Greek Life, Tucson City Courts
and Pima County Court. The SHADE Alcohol Diversion class is structured
to provide motivation to change drinking behaviors of problem drinkers
to include safer drinking or non-drinking habits.
In this class, students are taught how to estimate
the alcohol content of the beverages they consume, and learn how
to calculate their own blood alcohol concentration. Students are
encouraged to pace their intake, avoid intoxication, plan consumption
and learn how to recognize when it is time to stop drinking.
In addition to the SHADE class, students have the
opportunity to request additional assistance through individual
consultations with professional staff.
There is a $100
fee for the class and students must register in
advance by calling 621-5700.
SHADE classes are located on the 3rd floor of
Campus Health in Room D304.
