Working
Together
As part of an overall environmental strategy to decrease
alcohol availability and accessibility, especially to underage drinkers,
to increase alcohol free social and recreational opportunities,
and to establish safer campus and community events, HPPS works in
collaboration with campus, local, state and national partners to
reduce and prevent college substance abuse and related violence.
Recent collaborations between Campus Health staff and community
partners has resulted in the following:
The
Campus and Community Coalition for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse
Prevention
- Increased
enforcement of local “red tagging” ordinance to reduce/eliminate
underage neighborhood drinking parties
- Creation
of “safer party” door hangers and video and outreach
to neighbors
- Outreach
to Tucson/Pima County hospitality industry
Campus Alcohol and Other Drug Advisory Committee
- Increased
alcohol and other drug policy enforcement in Residence Halls
- Increased
collaboration with the Departments of Student Recreation and Student
Union and other campus student services around alcohol, drug use
and violence issues
- Diversion
programming for students referred by the Dean of Students
- e-CHUG
online alcohol screening for all freshman
- Increased
collaboration between Campus Health and UA Police Department to
broadcast information about Arizona alcohol and drug state laws
- Special
targeted intervention for high risk groups including members of
Sororities and Fraternities
Southern Arizona DUI Task Force
- Development
and production of state wide underage drinking brochures advertising
the new Arizona “body as container” underage drinking
law in both English and Spanish
The Pima/Tucson Commission on Addiction Treatment
and Prevention and The Pima/Tucson Commission on Addiction Treatment
and Prevention of Underage Drinking Task Force
- Development
of a seven point initiative -“A Call to Action: Reduce Underage
Drinking In Pima County”
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
- With
the Arizona IHE Network, developing a state-wide plan to address
college impaired driving
Arizona Department of Liquor License and
Control
- Working
to reduce fake I.D. use by underage students
- Working
to increase the safety for students and visitors to UA celebration
events
The Arizona Institutions of Higher Education Network
- Along
with Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University,
working to develop and implement state wide college substance
abuse prevention strategies
- Collecting
state wide college drinking and drug use data for a bi-annual
report to campus and state officials
- Providing
state wide training in college substance abuse prevention
- Partnering
with and providing leadership through The Network: Addressing
Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drug Issues
The Statewide Initiate Leadership Institute
- Working
in collaboration with other states and the Higher Education Center
to create a climate for change, and identify policies, and resources
to prevent college substance abuse
