When
I "walk-in" without an appointment, why can't I see a
doctor right away without going through the Triage Manager?
Triage,
which is the French word for "to sort," is managed by the triage
nurses who have access to the daily appointments. Campus Health
encourages students to call for appointments rather than 'walk-in'
because this will save the student time and possibly a trip. Triage
nurses work with students' special needs and schedules, and often
dispense advice on simple illnesses.
If
you do stop by to be seen by a triage nurse, one of three things
may occur:
- You
may be advised by triage regarding your symptoms and the care
necessary to treat them.
- You
may be given an appointment for later in the day - or, if the
condition is non-urgent, for later in the week.
- If
the condition is acute (e.g., bleeding, trouble breathing, severe
symptoms), you will be signed in and seen in our acute care center.
Anytime
you have a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911.
