Substance
Abuse
Substance abuse assessment, individual counseling, psychiatric
consults, and a group addressing issues related to addiction are
available to UA students.
The
first step in receiving these services is an assessment completed
by a licensed professional counselor with a specialty in substance
abuse. Following the assessment and when appropriate, UA students
are seen for individual counseling using a brief therapy model in
order to provide support in addressing their substance use and abuse
concerns. During the assessment, treatment options and treatment
needs are discussed. If the student requires more than a brief counseling
model, community referral resources are provided.
CAPS
keeps current lists of 12-step, SMART
and Rational Recovery meetings as well as on-line meeting and self-assessment
resources. In addition, CAPS provides an Alcohol and Other Drugs Support Group
that provides an opportunity to learn successful techniques to halt
destructive behaviors for those caught in the addiction cycle.
