We have found that short-term therapy is quite effective with college students, especially when problems are dealt with at an early stage. It is not unusual for significant change to occur in just a few sessions, even for problems that seem insurmountable on the surface.
Some difficult or long-standing problems may not be completely resolved in short-term treatment, but a course of focused therapy may provide a point of clarity enhancing a student's subsequent personal efforts to change. In cases where long-term therapy seems best, the professional staff will assist the student with a referral to an off-campus resource.
