Binder, Ph.D., ABPP, Director of Counseling and Psychological Services
Dr. Marian Binder is a Staff Psychologist at CAPS. As the Director
of CAPS, she spends the majority of her time with administrative
demands and campus crisis response, but the clinical work she does
with students focuses on anxiety management, couples/relationship
issues, decision-making and a variety of sexuality related issues.
She earned a BA degree in Psychology from Queens College, City University
of New York, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the
University of Arizona and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the
University of Texas at Austin. She is a licensed psychologist and
also holds a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology from the American
Board of Professional Psychology.
Glenn Matchett-Morris, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services
Dr. Matchett-Morris is a Staff Psychologist and the Assistant Director of CAPS. His time is split between direct clinical service to students, administrative responsibilities and clinical supervision. He earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in Counseling and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon. He is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Arizona. He has worked in a variety of settings providing mental health services, including universities, inpatient mental health units, outpatient behavioral health clinics, the U.S. Army, prisons, and Pima County Superior Court. His clinical work focuses on adjustment, depression, anxiety, stress management, anger management, crisis, couples and relationship issues, sexuality issues, and work with LGBTQ students.
Krishna Bright , LPC
Krishna is a Mental Health Clinician who provides triage and counseling services at CAPS. Her clinical experience has involved treating dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse), depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss and relationship issues. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic development, mindfulness, transpersonal psychotherapy and psychoeducation in counseling sessions. Krishna earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies at the University of Arizona, a Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy at Prescott College. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona and is also a National Certified Counselor. After hours, Krishna has an active role in a local, non-profit arts organization as a volunteer coordinator and facilitating arts activities.
Debra
Cox-Howard, M.C., LPC, ICADC, LISAC
Debra
is a licensed Mental Health Clinician at CAPS. Debra's work at CAPS
focuses on substance abuse prevention, assessment and treatment,
addictions, adult children of alcoholics, neuro-linguistic programming,
relationships, and general counseling. Debra earned her Bachelor of
Science degree from the University of Arizona and a Masters in
Counseling degree from the University of Phoenix. She is also a state
of Arizona Certified Substance Abuse Professional, an Internationally
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, a Licensed Independent Substance
Abuse Counselor, and a Certified Neuro-linguistic Programming
Practitioner.
Nancy Coyne , MD
Nancy Coyne is a staff psychiatrist at Caps. She is a board certified psychiatrist, certified in Addiction Medicine, trained in EMDR. She has been in private practice for many years and has been a consultant to sexual abuse support agencies, addiction treatment programs and boarding schools. She has an interest in individual and family psychotherapy, recovery from trauma, the use of art and yoga in therapy, addictions, and most recently equine facilitated psychotherapy. She currently works as a consultant to the Epona center for Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning and has a private practice in Sonoita.
Michelle
Dorsey, Ph.D.
Michelle is a Staff Psychologist and Coordinator of Clinical
Services for Campus Health's Oasis Program. At Campus Health, Michelle specializes in
working with individuals impacted by sexual assault and interpersonal
violence. She earned her B.S.
in Psychology from NAU, her M.A. in Counseling from Ball State University,
and her Ph.D. degree from New Mexico State University. She completed
her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Missouri-Columbia
Counseling Center, and is licensed by the Arizona State Board of
Psychologist Examiners.
Silvia Garcia , LPC
Silvia is a licensed Mental Health Clinician at CAPS. Silvia has provided in-patient mental health services at a state hospital as well as out-patient services in the Tucson, Oracle and Cochise County communities. She has provided mental health services for people with serious mental illness, victims of domestic violence and adults with a history of sexual abuse. She is knowledgeable and skilled in addressing many areas of concern for university students who experience faith/spirituality issues, financial issues, anxiety, academic problems due to emotional stress, and issues of divorce and depression. Her eclectic orientation favors cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, meditation and psychodynamic therapy.
Phil Gibeau, Ph.D.
Dr.
Phil is a staff psychologist at CAPS. He earned his bachelors degree at
The University of Wisconsin at Madison; his Masters Degree at Utah
State University and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Purdue
University. Dr. Phil has provided mental health services in state and
veteran's hospitals, general hospitals, mental health centers, private
practice settings and university counseling centers. He has been
licensed as a psychologist in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Ohio and is
currently licensed in Arizona. His eclectic orientation favors
cognitive therapy, behavior modification, psychodynamic development,
brief therapy, meditation and issues regarding faith/spirituality.
Scott Goldman , Ph.D.
Scott
Goldman, Ph.D. provides clinical and performance psychology for the
University of Arizona's athletic department. He administers direct
patient care to the student-athletes as well as consulting services for
the coaches and staff. He earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology
from Tulane University and a master's degree and Ph.D. in Clnical and
School Psychology from Hofstra University. Further, Scott received
additional training in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) at the
Albert Ellis Insititute. Dr. Goldman has provided mental health care in
a variety of settings for amateur, collegiate, semi-professional, and
professional athletes. His specialties include: Athletic and
Performance Enhancement; Rehabilitation Psychology; Stress and Anxiety
Disorders; Confidence; Anger Management; Depression Disorders;
Substance Abuse; Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy; Cognitive Behavior
Therapy; and Behavior Therapy.
Jill
Grassman, M.C., LPC, BCIAC
Jill
Grassman is a Mental Health Clinician and Biofeedback Therapist at
CAPS. In her practice, Jill treats adjustment issues, anxiety,
depression, relationship issues, stress-related symptoms and
conditions, and directs a meditation class every semester. In many
cases, students may benefit from even one or two sessions. She holds a
BA, cum laude, in Oriental Studies from the University of Arizona and a
Master of Counseling degree from the University of Phoenix. She is also
a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Arizona, a
Nationally Certified Counselor, and has national certification through
the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America.
Bevila John-Daniel, M.D.
Dr.
Bevila John-Daniel is one of the staff Psychiatrists at CAPS. She
joined our team in July 2007. She earned her medical degree from India
and graduated with an M.D. from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
She is board certified by the The American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology. Her areas of interest are in Cross-cultural Psychiatry, Mood
and Anxiety Disorders and Psychopharmacology.
Cynthia Klatte, L.C.S.W.
Cynthia
is an Arizona State Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined the CAPS
staff in the summer of 2007. She is a clinician
who provides brief, solution-focused therapy to students at CAPS. She
graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from
the University
of Massachusetts at Amherst. She then received her Master of Social
Work
Degree from the University of Connecticut with a Substantive Area in
Mental Health. She has specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy. in working with Dual Diagnoses (mental health and substance
abuse), and in the use of Mindfulness Meditation in therapy. She is a
member in good standing of the National Association of Social Workers.
Laura
Orlich, M.S., M.C., NCC, LPC
As
a Mental Health Clinician, Laura provides counseling for students
presenting with body image issues, disordered eating, financial
stressors, relationship concerns, and academic challenges, as well as
providing support for adjustment to University life. Licensed by the
state of Arizona and certified by the National Board of Certified
Counselors, Laura offers solution-oriented therapy, employing a variety
of brief therapy modalities. Having earned a Bachelor's Degree at the
University of Illinois, Laura completed a Master's Degree in Psychology
and Research at the University of Kansas and a Master of Counseling at
the University of Phoenix. She is active in the community of
professionals addressing the needs of the eating-disorder population.
Daniel Shinnick, MD
Dr.
Daniel Shinnick is our full-time Staff Psychiatrist at CAPS. He is
Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He
received his B.S. here at the University of Arizona in Molecular and
Cellular Biology, with minor studies in Psychology and Spanish. He
returned to his home state for his medical degree at the University of
New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. He completed his
residency training at The Menninger Clinic, then located in Topeka, KS
(now in Houston, TX), where he also had Psychoanalytic Training. His
areas of interest include psycho-pharmacology, psychotherapy, group
psychotherapy, family therapy, biofeedback, trauma, anxiety disorders,
and depression. He comes to CAPS from a hospital-based practice where
he worked on both Adult and Child/Adolescent Units in Kansas, which was
preceded by a Medical Directorship position in Community Mental Health
in Las Cruces, NM.
Michael
Strangstalien, M.A., MFT, LPC, NCC
Mike
Strangstalien is a Licensed Professional Counselor at CAPS and also has
a private practice. His original training was in Molecular Biology and
while working at the National Security Agency, he began training in
Marital and Family Therapy and Family Psychology at Georgetown,
concluding his studies at Chapman University. He has also been an
instructor, field practice supervisor and brings some 50,000 plus hours
of clinical background to CAPS. He is a member of the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy, the American
Counseling Association, the American College Counseling Association and
the American Psychological Association. He is credentialed at the state
and national levels. Mike is committed to helping students engineer
success into their lives.
Martie
van der Voort , LPC
Martie
provides triage and counseling services at CAPS. She works with all
clients, especially those dealing with eating/body image issues, trauma
(has Level II EMDR certification,) addictions and behavioral
compulsions, gender and LBGT issues. She has worked in a variety of
settings, including outpatient and community mental health. She
completed her Masters of Counseling at the University of Phoenix, has
been licensed by the State of Arizona as a Professional Counselor, and
has a private practice.
