Have
you ever been in a situation where someone needed help, but
you didn’t do anything?
Have you ever wanted to help a friend, but you didn’t
know how?
Campus Health at the University of Arizona has been awarded
a two year U.S. Department of Education grant to make our
campus a safer place to live, work and study. Step Up! teaches
the UA community how one person can make a difference to prevent
dangerous situations.
The
UA Campus Health Service adapted Step
Up!, a national leadership training program developed
in part by Becky Bell of Arizona Athletics and the Commitment
to an Athlete's Total Success (C.A.T.S.) program. Bell created
the Step Up! program in collaboration with the National Collegiate
Athletic Association and national experts as a pro-social
behavior and bystander intervention program that educates
students to be proactive in helping others.
Campus
Health Service has taken the concepts of Bell’s Step
Up! program to prevent interpersonal violence on campus. Specific
topics include: sexual assault, relationship violence, hazing,
discrimination/hate crimes, anger, and alcohol’s role
in violence.
