Clear
Liquid Diet
As the name would suggest,
this diet consists of clear liquids only. The liquid is served at frequent
intervals to supply the tissues with fluid and to relieve thirst. This
diet should be followed for at least 24-48 hours when a person is nauseated,
vomiting, or has diarrhea.
Below is a list of the liquids
that are allowed on a clear liquid diet (if tolerated):
- Broth
- Bouillon
- 7-Up®
- Tea (herbal ~ Manzanilla
or Chamomile is recommended)
- Popsicles®
- Water
- Ice Chips
- Ginger Ale
- Fruit Juices (especially
apple)
- Plain Jell-O®
Do not drink:
- Milk
- Liquids prepared with
milk
- Caffeinated beverages
