Currently, there is no immunization hold attached to COVID-19 vaccination status.

  • Upon receiving your admission offer, it is highly recommended that you schedule an appointment with your health care provider to review your immunization history and update your immunizations in accordance with the expanded immunization requirements for your college.
  • Begin the process for the Hepatitis B requirement as soon as possible. The entire series of Hep B vaccinations and the Hep B Surface Antibody Quantitative titer can take up to 6 months to complete. This means your course registration and financial aid can be delayed if you do not start this process early.
  • If you already have 3 doses of Hep B on your immunization record you should get your Hep B Surface Antibody Quantitative titer now.

Once you have submitted your immunization records, please allow 2 business days for processing.

If it has been more than two business days, you should check your UofA email for correspondence from the Campus Health Medical Records Department. If your immunization record was determined to be incomplete or more information is needed from you before your hold can be lifted, you will be contacted by Medical Records staff via a secure message in your PatientLink portal.

Yes, the Hep B Surface Antibody titer is required in addition to the Hep B vaccine series. This is a CDC guideline for healthcare professionals.

You need a Hepatitis B Surface Antibody Quantitative titer. To satisfy this requirement:

  1. The titer must be a quantitative titer. If you submit a qualitative titer, you will be asked to obtain a quantitative titer.
  2. The titer must be an IgG titer. If you submit an IgM titer, you will be asked to obtain an IgG titer.
  3. The titer must be an Antibody titer. If you submit an Antigen titer, you will be asked to obtain an Antibody titer.
  4. You must submit the official titer lab report to Medical Records. Patient Flow Sheets and Patient Portal Summaries are not considered official lab reports.

Any titer other than the Hepatitis B Surface Antibody Quantitative titer will be rejected. It is the student's responsibility to know and ensure the correct Hep B titer is drawn for Hep B compliance.

Yes, a positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer alone is not sufficient to meet the Hep B expanded immunization criteria. Persons who cannot provide written documentation of a complete Hep B vaccination series will be asked to begin/finish the series and repeat the titer 5 weeks after the third vaccination. This is a CDC guideline for healthcare professionals.

If your Hep B Surface Antibody titer result is 'Negative' or 'Equivocal' you will need to:

  • Get another Hepatitis B vaccination, called a booster.
  • Repeat the Hep B Surface Antibody titer 5 weeks after your booster vaccination.
  • If the repeat titer result is 'positive' then you have met compliance for Hep B.
  • If the repeat titer result is still 'Negative' or 'Equivocal' you will need to complete the series by getting the second and third Hep B boosters.
  • Hep B Booster #2 must be at least 30 days after your first booster.
  • Hep B Booster #3 must be a least 5 months after the second booster.
  • Five weeks after the third Hep B Booster you will need to repeat the Hep B Surface Antibody titer.

Repeating the Hep B series and titer can take up to six months to complete. This is why it is recommended that you obtain your Hep B Surface Antibody titer as soon as possible to be compliant at orientation.

You do not need to receive any additional vaccinations. You will be considered a Hep B Non-Responder and be asked to meet with a CHS designated medical provider, or your primary care physician, for additional lab work and discussion regarding your risk of acquiring Hep B. After providing documentation of this follow up, your compliance for Hep B will be met.

  1. Submit documentation of the positive PPD
  2. Complete and submit the Campus Health Positive TB Questionnaire.
  3. Get a Quantiferon TB Gold blood test.

If the Quantiferon test returns negative then your TB compliance is satisfied.

If your Quantiferon test returns positive and you are in the Tucson area, you will be directed to schedule an appointment with a CHS designated medical provider to be clinically cleared for the TB requirement. If you are outside the Tucson area you will need to contact the Medical Records Department at 520-621-4068 for further instruction.

Yes, even if you have a history of Chicken Pox you must still provide documentation of two appropriately spaced Varicella vaccinations or a positive Varicella IgG serology. This is a CDC guideline for healthcare professionals.

You can call the Campus Health Medical Records Department at 520-621-4068. The office is open daily from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm except for Wednesdays when the office opens at 9:00 am.

Waiting until you return may cause delays in your class registration as some of your requirements can take 30 days or more to complete. You are expected to make arrangements around your travel plans to obtain the necessary immunizations and lab tests for your immunization compliance. Timely compliance is your responsibility and traveling out of the country is not an acceptable excuse for missing the immunization compliance deadline for your college.

No, titers for MMR and Varicella are not required if your immunization records shows the vaccinations you received were appropriately spaced.
